Austin ISD celebrates completion of 2017 bond program and launches 2022 bond initiative

Austin ISD leaders celebrated a significant milestone at the recent Travis Early College High School graduation, highlighting the successful completion of the 2017 Bond Program and the launch of the 2022 Bond Program. The 2017 initiative, which totaled $1.05 billion, enabled the modernization of 17 schools and the construction of two new campuses, including the newly inaugurated General Marshall School.

During the ceremony, officials expressed gratitude to community partners and committees, such as the Facilities and Bond Planning Advisory Committee and the Community Bond Oversight Committee, for their dedication to overseeing these transformative projects. “These projects take all of us,” noted a representative, emphasizing the collaborative effort that made the advancements possible.

Looking ahead, the recently approved 2022 Bond Program, amounting to $2.44 billion, aims to modernize an additional 25 campuses, ensuring that thousands of students across Austin benefit from updated learning environments. The excitement was palpable as attendees were encouraged to appreciate the new facilities, with one speaker humorously noting, “That is the smell of a brand new gym. Enjoy it because it's not gonna last.”

As the district wraps up the previous bond initiatives, the focus remains on creating flexible and modern educational spaces that will support the growing student population in Austin.
