The Selma City Council convened on November 14, 2024, to discuss several key agenda items, including a public hearing on a specific use permit for a new retail and fabrication shop, a variance for construction hours for a new hospital, and the appointment of a new board member.
The meeting opened with a public hearing regarding a recommendation from the Planning and Zoning Commission for a specific use permit for Clear Works Premium Auto Styling. The permit will allow the business to operate at 17170 Jordan Road, Suites 401, 402, and 403, offering services such as wheels and tires, auto detailing, and insurance claim jobs. The council unanimously approved the permit, welcoming Clear Works to Selma.
Next, the council addressed a variance request from Layton Construction Company for construction hours related to the Bear Canyon Hospital project. The company sought to continue previously granted early morning construction hours, which had not resulted in complaints from residents. The council approved the variance, allowing construction to start as early as 5 AM and permitting concrete pours between 1 AM and 2 AM on select days.
The council also appointed Craig Spooner to the board of directors of the Ratama Development Corporation, filling a vacancy left by a resigning member. Spooner’s term will expire on June 30, 2026.
In addition, the council authorized the publication of a request for qualifications for a citywide comprehensive parks master plan, aiming to enhance local parks and recreational facilities. This initiative is part of the fiscal year 2024-2025 budget.
Another significant item was the approval of a budget amendment to provide a monthly cell phone allowance of $80 to city elected officials, effective November 1, 2024.
Lastly, the council discussed a first amendment to an economic development incentive agreement with Cambridge Development Group, extending deadlines for construction plans and completion. This amendment aims to facilitate ongoing development projects in the city.
The meeting concluded with a unanimous vote on all agenda items, reflecting a collaborative effort to advance Selma's development and community services.
