Santa Ana High School wrestling team celebrates ninth CIF championship win

The Orange County Board of Education convened on June 3, 2025, to discuss various agenda items, including a public hearing on the Local Control Accountability Plan (LCAP) for the College and Career Preparatory Academy. The meeting commenced with expressions of gratitude towards Superintendent Dr. Bean for her leadership, followed by the opening of the public hearing. However, no public comments were received, leading to the closure of the hearing shortly thereafter.

The agenda then shifted to recognize the achievements of the Santa Ana High School wrestling team, which recently secured the statewide CIF championship title, marking their ninth victory in this series. Sheriff Don Barnes, along with members of the Sheriff's Advisory Council, attended to celebrate this accomplishment. David Kim, a council member, was acknowledged for his generous donation of $10,000 to the wrestling program and for purchasing championship rings for the team members.

Sheriff Barnes addressed the board, commending the wrestlers for their hard work and resilience, emphasizing the life lessons learned through sports, such as teamwork and perseverance. He encouraged the students to make positive life choices and resist peer pressure, highlighting the importance of self-advocacy in their futures.

Following the sheriff's remarks, the board invited the wrestlers to the front for a photo opportunity and to receive their championship rings and the donation check. The meeting concluded with a celebratory atmosphere, recognizing both the athletic achievements of the students and the community support that contributed to their success.
