Daria Turner appointed new president of Knox County Education Association

In a significant leadership transition, the Knox County Education Association (KCEA) announced that Daria Turner will take over as president effective July 1, 2025. This change comes as current president, who expressed gratitude for the collaborative efforts during her tenure, will no longer be an employee of the Knox County School District after June 30. Turner, an experienced educator and active KCEA member, is expected to enhance the relationship between the association and the school district.

The announcement was made during the Knox County Schools Board of Education work session, where members also celebrated the contributions of outgoing student representative Sofia, who shared her experiences and offered reminders for students as summer approaches. Sofia emphasized the importance of communication regarding dual enrollment costs, highlighting a gap that affected her and her peers.

Additionally, board members congratulated various local high school sports teams for their recent achievements, including Farragut High School's boys' track and field team, which claimed the state championship, and the Gibbs High School softball team, which secured its twelfth state title.

As the meeting concluded, board members expressed their excitement for the upcoming summer and the opportunities that lie ahead for both the KCEA and Knox County Schools. The leadership change is anticipated to foster continued collaboration and success within the district.
