City approves solar contracts saving 10.5% on utility bills

The Saratoga Springs City Council held a pre-agenda meeting on June 2, 2025, focusing on several key topics, including city finances, infrastructure bids, and community events.

One of the primary discussions centered on the city’s initiative to connect with solar energy providers. The council considered authorizing the mayor to sign contracts with Grassy Grove Solar East LLC and Bakers Falls Solar LLC. This partnership aims to provide the city with a 10.5% discount on utility bills by connecting to solar arrays without the need for the city to invest in infrastructure. The arrangement will simplify billing through the National Grid, requiring no additional paperwork for residents.

In addition to the solar contracts, the council reviewed multiple bids for city services. These included awarding contracts for copper sulfate, HVAC services, plumbing, and groundwater exploration. Notably, the council is extending a bid for HVAC services to BBI Mechanical and awarding a new contract to T. McElliot for Venners Park.

The meeting also addressed community engagement, specifically a proposal to waive fees for the use of a newly constructed Veterans Memorial during Memorial Day remembrance events. The council emphasized that any use of the memorial by veterans organizations should be free of charge to support local veterans.

Lastly, the council announced an upcoming street naming ceremony for Mark Strauss, scheduled for June 24 at noon, further highlighting the city’s commitment to honoring community members.
