County Engineer John Hernandez updates on Justice Center progress and ARPA projects

San Patricio County is making significant strides in the construction of the new Justice Center, with current progress reported at approximately 42% completion. During the recent Commissioner’s Court meeting on June 2, 2025, County Engineer John Hernandez provided an update on the project, highlighting the effective collaboration between the county's team and contractor Fulton.

The meeting revealed that the project has reached a crucial phase, with a payout of about $2.2 million this month. Hernandez emphasized the importance of the mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) systems, which are essential for the project's timely completion. The construction team is currently focused on the first floor, with plans to advance to the second and third floors in the coming weeks.

Key developments include the installation of cinder block units and preparations for future HVAC systems. Hernandez noted that the design for a fire suppression storage system has been approved, marking a critical step forward. However, details regarding the water storage tank and lift station are still being finalized, with the county working closely with architects and developers to ensure all components align with project timelines.

In addition to the Justice Center update, the court also discussed other projects funded by the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA), including a bridal shelter and an extension to the juvenile detention center, as well as advancements in fiber optics infrastructure. These initiatives reflect the county's commitment to enhancing community resources and infrastructure.
