RV site expansion plan adds 25 new spaces in development review meeting

On June 3, 2025, the Nassau County Development Review Committee convened to discuss a proposed expansion of an existing recreational vehicle (RV) site, which currently accommodates 37 units. The plan aims to add 25 new RV spaces, bringing the total to 60, while maintaining the integrity of the existing site.

During the meeting, committee members reviewed the proposed site plan, which includes an existing residence and a vacant commercial building. Notably, no new structures are planned for the development at this time. The committee emphasized the importance of labeling the 25-foot setback for the rear of the property on the site plan, ensuring compliance with local regulations.

Caleb Hurst from Development Services raised several points regarding the proposal. He highlighted the need for vehicle use areas to be paved, as per the county's road lane drainage standards. The committee requested clarification on the design of the RV slips, specifically the 90-degree angle of the pull-ins, to ensure that vehicles can maneuver safely in and out of the spaces.

Additionally, the developers indicated a potential variance request to use alternative materials, such as gravel, for parking areas instead of the standard asphalt. The committee noted that any deviations from the paving requirements would need to be reviewed and approved.

This meeting underscores Nassau County's ongoing efforts to manage growth in recreational facilities while adhering to safety and environmental standards. The proposed expansion reflects the increasing demand for RV accommodations in the area, which could enhance local tourism and economic activity.
