Jacksonville High School celebrates Special Olympics success and job training program revival

The Jacksonville North Pulaski School District (JNPSD) held its June 2025 Board Meeting, highlighting significant advancements in special education and community engagement initiatives. A key focus of the meeting was the success of the district's full inclusion model, which integrates special education scholars into general education classrooms.

During the meeting, it was reported that JNPSD students participated in the Special Olympics Track and Field event, achieving impressive results. Notably, 11 scholars earned gold medals in bowling, while 19 secured gold in track and field competitions. The enthusiasm surrounding these events was palpable, with a particular mention of a blind student who excelled in a running event, showcasing the remarkable achievements of all participants.

Additionally, the district reintroduced the Ready to Work program at the high school level. This initiative equips students with essential soft skills during the first three quarters of the school year, followed by real-world job experiences in the community during the fourth quarter. Partnerships with local businesses, such as Crane Ford and Unity Health, provide students with paid work opportunities, fostering their independence and preparing them for post-graduation employment.

The board expressed a commitment to expanding job opportunities for students, particularly those close to the high school, to enhance accessibility and participation in the program. The meeting concluded with a call for community support in identifying potential job sites, emphasizing the district's dedication to empowering its students through practical experience and skill development.
