Forest Lake School District celebrates transition with elementary school closure and new leadership

The Forest Lake Area Schools Board meeting held on May 29, 2025, focused on several key topics, including community engagement, school transitions, and upcoming events.

The meeting began with a report from Member Tyson, who highlighted the positive turnout at the Boundary Adjustment Open House, where six to eight families engaged with the school board, expressing excitement and gratitude for the information provided. Member Tyson also reported on the Minnesota School Boards Association (MSBA) annual meeting, noting the election of new leadership, with Tim Reardon becoming the president-elect for the 2025-2026 term.

In the community education segment, Member Christiansen shared that seven mini grants totaling $5,600 were awarded to staff members, and enrollment for the summer school-aged care program is higher than the previous year. Additionally, the meeting time for next year's community education meetings will change to 5:30 PM to 7:00 PM.

Superintendent Becker Massa provided a significant update regarding the consolidation of Forest Lake Elementary and Forest View, marking the closure of Forest Lake Elementary, which has served the community since 1957. This transition will see the district's fifth graders move to the middle school, creating a new chapter for students and families.
