City completes Sportsplex roof and advances multiple infrastructure projects

The City Commission meeting on June 2, 2025, highlighted significant progress on multiple infrastructure projects in Madison, SD, with the completion of the Sportsplex roof being a key achievement. The north two-thirds of the roof replacement is now finished, marking a major milestone for the facility.

Commissioners reviewed six major infrastructure projects currently underway. The Segment 4 water main loop is nearing completion, with final asphalt replacement and seating remaining. Segment 5A is also close to finishing, with storm sewer pipes installed and sanitary sewer work ongoing on South Union Avenue. Meanwhile, Segment 5B is actively progressing on Highland Avenue, where water main work is taking place beneath the railroad tracks.

The Park Creek walls project is down to the final rock wall sections, with sheet piling already installed. Egan Avenue reconstruction is in its first phase, with temporary water lines set up and most water mains completed. Lastly, airport construction is set to kick off on June 9.

In addition to infrastructure updates, the meeting welcomed two new employees: Jeff Wiman, the new building official and code enforcement officer, and Emily Garcia, who will serve as the service desk representative at the community center. The commission expressed enthusiasm for their contributions to the city.
