Aurora schools receive diverse donations for Special Olympics and winter needs

During the recent Finance Committee meeting for Aurora East USD 131, a significant focus was placed on community donations that support various school programs and initiatives. The district has received a variety of contributions aimed at enhancing student experiences and staff morale.

Notably, the Special Olympics program benefited from generous donations, including two large canisters of coffee, a large container of water, creamer, sugar, and sugar substitutes from Starbucks. Additionally, Big Apple Bagels provided 10 dozen bagels, while Overweiss donated 50 ice cream cones for the participating children.

The meeting also highlighted the support from local businesses and organizations. Faculty and staff at Allen Elementary received three boxes of popcorn from Double Good Popcorn, along with 10 cases of Girl Scout cookies from Troop 1426. These treats not only uplift staff but also foster community spirit.

In preparation for the upcoming winter, the district announced the acquisition of 6,000 new snow pants, which will be distributed across all elementary schools. This initiative aims to ensure that students are well-equipped for the colder months ahead.

Financial contributions were also discussed, including a $500 anonymous donation for staff lunches and two $25 gift cards from Altrio restaurant for the East High soccer team fundraiser. Furthermore, the Navy League of the Air Force donated $2,000 to support the NJROTC program at Aurora High School, emphasizing the community's commitment to educational programs.

These donations reflect a strong partnership between the district and local businesses, showcasing how community support plays a vital role in enhancing educational experiences for students and staff alike.
