The Hermosa Beach Parks, Recreation & Community Resources Commission has taken a significant step towards enhancing community engagement by considering the approval of a unique event, the Mind Travel silent piano concert, scheduled for August 19 and October 19, 2025. This innovative concert will feature a live piano performance transmitted through wireless headphones, allowing participants to immerse themselves in music and meditation while enjoying the beach setting.
The event, organized by the Mind Bridal Foundation, anticipates up to 360 participants. While the foundation suggests a donation of $25 to $55 for headphone use, it also offers a "pay what you can" option, enabling anyone to participate with a minimum donation of just $1. This approach aims to eliminate financial barriers, ensuring accessibility for all community members.

The commission discussed the need for compliance with California Coastal Commission guidelines, as the event falls within the Memorial Day to Labor Day timeframe and occupies a sandy beach area. If approved, the event producer will need to coordinate with the Coastal Commission to determine if a temporary event permit is necessary.
Murray Hittery, the event creator, highlighted the immersive and meditative nature of the concert, which has been successfully held in various locations across Southern California. He assured the commission that the event would be low-impact and focused on wellness, providing a serene experience for attendees.
The commission's recommendation for approval will be presented to the city council on June 24, 2025, marking a potential new chapter in community events in Hermosa Beach. The Mind Travel concert not only promises to enrich the local cultural landscape but also emphasizes mental health and well-being, aligning with the community's growing focus on wellness initiatives.
