Barcelo and Eisenhower Middle Schools win top honors at Music in the Parks competition

Recognition of musical excellence took center stage at the Freehold Township Board of Education meeting on June 3, 2025, as students from Barcelo and Eisenhower Middle Schools were honored for their outstanding achievements in the Music in the Parks Band Competition.

Band directors Mr. Crawford and Mrs. Feldman led the celebration, highlighting the dedication and discipline required from the young musicians. "These are the best and most dedicated band students in our school district," Mr. Crawford stated, as he invited the competition band members to the front of the room.

The competition band, formed years ago by the two directors, consists of seventh and eighth graders who auditioned with pieces they had prepared over the month. The rigorous process not only tested their musical skills but also their commitment, as they balanced rehearsals with other extracurricular activities.

This year, the band competed at Manalapan High School against various groups from across the region and earned first place with a superior rating. Following their performance, the students enjoyed a day at Six Flags as a reward for their hard work.

As Mrs. Feldman prepares for retirement, her contributions to the music program were acknowledged, marking a bittersweet moment for the community. The recognition of these talented students underscores the importance of music education and its role in fostering discipline and teamwork among young learners.
