Historic Preservation Board reviews Cliff Road renovations and landscaping plans

The Nantucket Historic District Commission convened on June 3, 2025, to review several proposed structures and modifications within the historic district. The meeting focused on the approval of various building plans, including a garage, a shed, an office structure, and a gym, all of which received unanimous support from the commission members.

The first item discussed was a one-story garage, measuring 15 feet 5 inches tall, which was approved without any concerns raised. Following this, a shed with a ridge height of 13 feet 11 inches was also approved, again with no objections. The commission then moved on to an office structure, similarly one story and 15 feet 7 inches tall, which was approved unanimously.

The final structure reviewed was a two-story gym with a small sitting area, located 400 feet off the road and standing at 23 feet 5 inches tall. This proposal also passed without any concerns from the commission members.

In addition to the structures, the commission reviewed a site plan for a pool and a pergola adjacent to it. The pool's location, behind the main house and past existing hardscapes, was deemed acceptable, leading to its approval. The pergola was also approved unanimously.

The meeting included a discussion on a historic structure from 1747, where the addition of shutters and landscaping changes were proposed. The commission noted the importance of maintaining the character of the historic building, with some members expressing concerns about the proposed stone steps and patio, suggesting that brick would be more appropriate for the historic context.
