SafeU app launched to empower and protect women in emergencies

Glendale City Council has taken a significant step towards enhancing community safety with the introduction of SafeU, a virtual safe space designed specifically for women. This innovative application aims to empower users by providing essential tools for personal safety and community support.

SafeU allows users to register while ensuring their privacy, as only their user nickname is visible to others. In emergency situations, users can activate a help feature by pressing and holding a button for three seconds. This action sends an alert SMS, complete with geolocation, to up to seven pre-selected contacts. Additionally, the app automatically begins recording audio for one minute, which can serve as crucial evidence if needed.

Beyond emergency assistance, SafeU offers a forum section where users can engage in discussions and seek advice from peers and professionals, including lawyers and psychologists. This feature aims to combat feelings of isolation by connecting users with a supportive community.

The app also provides an updated network section that consolidates information about various organizations and consultants available in the user's country. This makes it easier for individuals to find the help they need, whether digitally or in person. SafeU even includes a mapping feature to locate these resources directly.
