Las Vegas City Council announces Fishing Derby and pancake breakfast for June 14

The Parks and Recreation Advisory Commission meeting held on June 4, 2025, in Las Vegas focused on upcoming community events and initiatives aimed at enhancing local engagement with parks and recreation activities.

Commissioner Burgos reported on two significant events. The first is a Fishing Derby and Pancake Breakfast scheduled for June 14, from 8 to 10 AM. This event, organized by the Las Vegas City Council and Councilwoman Brunei in collaboration with Troop 129, the Nevada Department of Wildlife, and the Southern Nevada Building Trades Union, invites residents to enjoy an all-you-can-eat pancake breakfast followed by fishing activities. Participants can bring their own fishing gear or borrow equipment provided by the Southern Nevada Building Trades Union.

Additionally, the city is hosting a "Beyond the Boots" women's retreat on June 13, aimed at military-connected women. This half-day event will focus on healing, connection, and personal growth, taking place in Mount Charleston. The retreat costs $10 and includes transportation provided by the Doula Community Center.

Commissioner Vargas also highlighted an upcoming Breakfast Buzz event hosted by Councilwoman Victoria Seaman on June 28, from 9 to 10 AM at the Veterans Memorial Center. This gathering aims to foster community connections and keep parks and recreation initiatives in the minds of local council members.

The meeting concluded with a reminder for public participation, although no citizens came forward to comment. The commission adjourned shortly after, emphasizing the importance of community involvement in local parks and recreation efforts.
