KHS Board welcomes new student representatives Sofia and Benny

In a vibrant display of youth engagement, the Kingston City School District (KCSD) Board of Education meeting on June 4, 2025, marked a significant milestone with the introduction of two new student board members, Sofia Collier and Benny John. The atmosphere buzzed with excitement as Dr. Skorker, the district's representative, detailed the rigorous selection process that led to their appointment.

Dr. Skorker explained that the journey began in February when faculty members were invited to recommend current juniors who would serve as strong advocates for their peers. After a thorough nomination process, 19 students were considered, with 13 expressing interest in the role.

Ultimately, Sofia and Benny stood out for their professionalism and empathy, making them the clear choices for the board.

As they took the stage, Sofia shared her enthusiasm for representing her classmates, highlighting her involvement in various clubs, including the Kingston High School Tiger Band and Model UN. Benny, the founder of a youth group focused on improving the Hudson River's water quality, expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve and emphasized his commitment to making a difference.
