Case Township Clerk Deb Hoyt highlights proactive county support for township clerks

Concerns over road conditions dominated the Clare County Board of Commissioners meeting on March 15, 2023, as residents voiced frustrations regarding the quality of gravel roads and the materials used for maintenance.

During the session, community members questioned the effectiveness of the current gravel, specifically the "23A pit run," which some claimed is contributing to road washouts. Mark Dion, a local resident, highlighted the inadequacy of the material, stating, "Pit run's horrible. That's why all your roads are washing out." This prompted discussions about the need for better materials and more effective road management strategies.

Deb Hoyt, the clerk of Case Township, praised the county's proactive approach in assisting township clerks with navigating recent legislative changes, particularly in light of Proposal 22-2. She noted that many clerks from other counties were not receiving the same level of support, emphasizing the importance of collaboration in addressing election-related challenges.

Pat Adams, president of the South Primary Lake Homeowners Association, also shared insights from road commission meetings, expressing concerns about the prioritization of road repairs. He pointed out discrepancies in how roads are maintained, particularly in subdivisions with higher tax contributions compared to less populated areas.

The meeting underscored a growing demand for improved road conditions and transparency from the road commission. Residents are eager for answers regarding the materials used and the rationale behind road maintenance decisions.
