St. Mary's County Public Schools is set to enhance outdoor play for students at Betty Marshall Elementary with the approval of new playground equipment. During the Board of Education meeting on June 4, 2025, a recommendation was made to allocate $147,859.10 for the purchase and installation of the new playground, which will replace the oldest of three existing play areas on the school campus.
The decision comes as part of the district's commitment to maintaining high standards for student facilities. The new playground will cater to children aged 2 to 12, addressing a current gap in age-appropriate play structures at the school. The existing playground, which has surpassed its life expectancy, will be removed to make way for the new installation, ensuring that students have safe and modern equipment to support their physical and social development.
