Pasco County's Building Construction Services earns national accreditation and environmental approval

In a recent meeting of the Pasco Board of County Commissioners, excitement filled the air as officials celebrated significant achievements and discussed innovative environmental initiatives. The meeting, held on June 4, 2025, highlighted the county's commitment to excellence and sustainability.

In another exciting development, the county received approval from the Department of Environmental Protection to conduct a trial using bottom ash as a concrete additive in collaboration with CMEX in Brooksville. This pilot program aims to repurpose waste material, potentially leading to cost savings and reducing the need for landfill expansion. "If it takes off, it could lead to some cost avoidance for us," a commissioner noted, highlighting the environmental and financial benefits of the initiative.

The discussion also touched on the importance of maintaining clean waterways. Commissioners expressed concerns about debris in local canals and the impact of grass clippings on water quality. One commissioner proposed allowing waterfront homeowners to use impervious materials like pavers to prevent grass from contaminating the water, drawing inspiration from successful practices observed in Europe. "This is a critical thing for our water quality," he stated, urging staff to explore this proposal further.
