The Tehachapi Depot Museum is set to celebrate its 15th anniversary this week, marking a significant milestone for the community and its rich railroad history. The museum, housed in a historic 1904 building, was rebuilt after a devastating fire just before its initial opening. Volunteers dedicated two years to remodel the structure, and the museum officially opened its doors almost exactly two years after the fire.
A key highlight of the anniversary celebrations will be a ceremony on Thursday, where Tehachapi will be designated as a "Train Town USA" by representatives from Union Pacific. This designation is a rare honor, with only 33 towns across the United States receiving it, and it underscores Tehachapi's commitment to preserving and promoting its historic railroad heritage.
