Subscribe for Free The summer reading program, a staple of the library for over 30 years, is designed around themes provided by the national iRead program. This year’s theme, "Level Up," is complemented by vibrant artwork from children's book illustrators, which will be featured in promotional materials. The program is structured to be self-paced, allowing participants of all ages to track their reading progress through logs tailored for babies, kids, teens, and adults. This flexibility aims to motivate readers with smaller rewards throughout the summer, rather than solely relying on larger raffle prizes.
The commission also discussed the success of last year's teen advocates program, which empowered older students to promote reading among younger audiences. This year, the program will continue to engage teens through interactive activities, including a Dungeons and Dragons-themed game, further enhancing the library's appeal to younger demographics.
Upcoming events include workshops and performances, with notable guests like illustrator Oliver Chin scheduled to lead a design workshop. The library's proactive approach to programming and community engagement reflects its ongoing commitment to fostering a love of reading and learning among residents.
As the summer reading program approaches, the library looks forward to building on past successes and continuing to serve as a vital resource for the Pleasanton community. The commission's discussions underscore the library's role not just as a place for books, but as a hub for community interaction and cultural enrichment.
