CRCSD offers free summer meals for kids and adults at local schools

The Cedar Rapids Community School District (CRCSD) is taking significant steps to ensure that children have access to nutritious meals this summer. From June 9 to August 22, the district will provide free meals to all kids aged 18 and under, with no sign-up or identification required. Families can simply show up at one of the designated meal sites to receive breakfast and lunch.

Breakfast will be served from 8:00 to 9:30 AM, while lunch will be available from 11:00 AM to 12:30 PM, Monday through Friday. This initiative aims to address food insecurity and promote healthy eating among children during the summer months when school meals are not available.

In an added benefit, thanks to grant funding, adults can also enjoy free meals at Johnson Elementary and Roosevelt Middle School, although only one meal per adult will be provided, and they must be present to receive it. It is important to note that there will be no takeout options this year, encouraging families to dine together at the meal sites.
