Juneteenth 2025 celebrations kick off with activities at Patterson Library and Mackenzie Park

The City Council of Lubbock, Texas, convened on June 6, 2025, to discuss the upcoming Juneteenth celebrations scheduled for later in the month. The meeting highlighted a series of events aimed at honoring this significant day in American history.

The celebrations will commence on Thursday, June 19, at 2 PM at the Patterson Library. The kickoff will feature a press conference, children's activities, and refreshments. Following this, from 5 to 8 PM, youth aged 10 to 17 are invited to participate in a silent disco, silent reading, glow-in-the-dark games, and a dance-off.

On Saturday, June 21, seniors aged 62 and above are encouraged to attend a complimentary breakfast hosted by community members. The day will continue with the United Supermarket's Juneteenth parade at 10 AM, where participants can join for a nominal entry fee of $30.

After the parade, starting at 11:30 AM, the Freedom Fest will take place at Mackenzie Park. This event will include live music, activities for children and teens, food trucks, vendors, games, and giveaways.

The celebrations will culminate on June 21 at 7 PM with an evening gathering at the park, featuring line dance lessons and a special guest DJ, Arie Spins from New Orleans. Attendees are encouraged to bring chairs and blankets to enjoy the festivities, which will conclude with a fireworks show sponsored by H-E-B.

The meeting underscored the city's commitment to celebrating Juneteenth and fostering community engagement through a variety of activities for all ages.
