PSTA revitalizes ferry service between St. Petersburg and Tampa with federal grant

Council member Menigo expressed enthusiasm about the grant, noting that PSTA plans to purchase one or two high-speed ferry vessels. This initiative aims to establish a reliable and permanent cross-bay ferry service, a long-awaited connection that could enhance transportation options for residents and visitors alike. Unlike previous ferry models, PSTA intends to own its vessels, which is expected to lower long-term operating costs and improve service flexibility. The agency will also seek a third-party operator to manage the service, with proposals anticipated this summer.

He underscored the importance of regional cooperation, noting that many workers in Clearwater's hospitality sector commute from neighboring counties. "So much of our workforce here in Clearwater comes from outside," he explained, stressing the need for effective transportation solutions to support the local economy.
