Boone County assessors adopt shared appraisal system enhancing transparency and data management

In a recent Boone County Committee of the Whole meeting, significant advancements in local infrastructure and assessment practices were discussed, highlighting the county's commitment to improving community services and safety.

One of the key topics was the ongoing use of a shared computer-assisted mass appraisal (CAMA) system, initiated by former assessor Pat Elder in 2009. This innovative approach allows all township assessors to utilize the same cost models and valuation methods, fostering transparency and equity in real estate assessments. The county plans to upgrade its outdated software, with hopes pinned on a new product from JRM Consulting. Additionally, the committee approved the use of Motor Fuel Tax (MFT) funds for the replacement of a bridge culvert on Stone Quarry Road near Graham Road. This project, which is already budgeted, is expected to improve safety and accessibility in the area. The bridge, currently a narrow structure, will be redesigned to accommodate future road expansions and enhance traffic flow.

Another significant infrastructure project discussed was the engineering service agreement for a bridge replacement under the Canadian National Railroad on Pool Road. This project aims to replace a dangerous single-lane timber structure with a safer, two-lane design. The new layout will include improved curves and guardrails, addressing long-standing safety concerns in the area. The county is actively seeking additional funding to minimize local costs, with hopes of securing federal rail money to support the project.
