Excessive vehicle noise is set to become a focal point for the City of Wildwood, as the Administration & Public Works Committee discussed a proposed municipal ordinance aimed at curbing disturbances from loud engines and stereos. During the June 3 meeting, Mayor Garretano and committee members highlighted ongoing complaints from residents about noise pollution along major thoroughfares, particularly along Highway 100 and Clayton Road.

The proposed ordinance would empower police officers to monitor and enforce noise levels from vehicles, specifically targeting those exceeding 85 decibels. This initiative is designed to address not only loud cars but also motorcycles and other vehicles that contribute to the noise problem. The committee discussed the potential use of decibel meters to aid enforcement, with the aim of providing officers with the tools necessary to respond effectively to complaints.

Committee member Tom Young noted that while the city already has noise regulations, the new ordinance would specifically focus on moving vehicles, distinguishing it from existing codes that address noise from businesses and residential areas.
