Concerns over the deteriorating condition of Clayton Road took center stage at the City of Wildwood's Administration & Public Works Committee meeting on June 3, 2025. City officials voiced frustration over the ongoing issues with the road, which serves as a vital artery for local traffic, particularly with the return of school season.
During the meeting, a motion was made to formally request immediate interim repairs and a full reconstruction of the Clayton Road corridor between Strecker Road and Black Canyon Court. The proposal aims to address the numerous complaints from residents regarding the road's poor condition. "Some sections are approaching the need to rebuild it," one council member noted, emphasizing the urgency of the situation.
The committee debated whether to request a complete reconstruction or simply an overlay, with concerns about the costs associated with a full rebuild. Ultimately, they decided to advocate for both options, allowing the county to assess the situation and determine the best course of action. "If we ask for all of it and they say we can resurface it, then take it," one member suggested, highlighting the need for a proactive approach.
In addition to the road discussions, the committee also approved a proposal for the inspection of 33 small vehicular bridges in Wildwood, with a budget of $30,000 allocated for the task. This inspection is part of a five-year rotation to ensure the safety and integrity of these structures, which are crucial for local transportation.
The meeting concluded with a unanimous vote to elevate the Clayton Road resolution to the city council, signaling a commitment to addressing the community's pressing infrastructure needs. As the city prepares to engage with county officials, residents are encouraged to stay informed and involved in the ongoing discussions about their roads and bridges.
