Collin County is experiencing unprecedented growth, with the latest population estimate soaring to over 1.3 million residents as of January 1, 2025. This figure, revealed during a recent meeting of the Collin County Toll Road Authority, marks an increase of 75,000 people in just one year, significantly surpassing the typical annual growth rate of 30,000 to 50,000 residents seen over the past eight years.
The report, prepared by the council of governments, highlights that Collin County is outpacing neighboring Dallas and Tarrant counties, which added 45,000 and 35,000 residents, respectively. This rapid growth translates to an average of 207 new residents each day, a notable increase from the previously reported 100 to 120 daily newcomers.

This shift is attributed to changes in annexation laws and the rise of planned developments outside city limits. As a result, the county's law enforcement, primarily the Sheriff's Office, is facing increased pressure to provide services to these densely populated regions.
Commissioners emphasized the need for collaboration with local municipalities and legislative bodies to ensure adequate public safety and infrastructure support for the growing population. The discussions underscored the importance of addressing the challenges posed by this rapid growth, including the need for contracts with municipal utility districts (MUDs) to ensure they contribute to essential services like law enforcement and fire protection.
As Collin County continues to expand, officials are committed to adapting to these changes and ensuring that the necessary resources and services are in place to support its residents.
