Dobbs Ferry planning committee launches Downtown Revitalization Initiative for economic development

Dobbs Ferry is set to embark on an ambitious revitalization journey following a recent government meeting focused on the New York Forward initiative. The program aims to enhance the downtown area, fostering economic growth and community engagement over the next eight months.

Key goals of the initiative include creating a vibrant downtown with a unique sense of place, attracting diverse businesses, and enhancing public spaces for arts and culture. The plan also emphasizes the importance of building a diverse population through varied housing and employment opportunities, while addressing environmental concerns by reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

The local planning committee, co-chaired by the mayor and community leaders, will play a crucial role in shaping the vision for Dobbs Ferry's downtown. They will meet approximately five to six times, with the first public workshop scheduled for early June. This workshop will invite community input on potential projects, which will be solicited from public, private, and nonprofit entities.

As part of the process, a downtown profile and assessment will be conducted to inform project evaluations. The committee will ultimately recommend projects for inclusion in a strategic investment plan, which will be submitted for state review.
