The Arlington Independent School District (AISD) celebrated the achievements of its students during the STAR Awards 2025 ceremony, highlighting the profound impact of dedicated educators on their lives. The event showcased the stories of several students who expressed gratitude towards teachers and counselors who played pivotal roles in their academic journeys.

Austin Fields, a Texas Christian University student majoring in computer science, shared how his teacher, Miss O'Brien, helped him embrace his autism spectrum diagnosis. Her support not only boosted his self-esteem but also empowered him to advocate for himself and others. Fields described her as a significant influence in his life, emphasizing the importance of her encouragement.

Jonathan Garcia, now attending the University of Texas at Austin for civil engineering, credited head counselor Teresa Thigpen for guiding him through the college application process. With parents who had limited education, Garcia expressed how Thigpen's approachable nature made him feel supported and understood, transforming her into a friend as well as a counselor.

Enrique Luna, pursuing aerospace engineering at UTA, highlighted the positive learning environment created by his teacher, Mr. Vargas. Luna praised Vargas for his supportive and engaging classroom, which made learning enjoyable and fostered a sense of belonging.

Other students, like Litzy Martinez and Stephanie Martinez, also shared heartfelt tributes to their teachers, recognizing their dedication and the personal connections formed. Litzy, who aims to become a pharmacist, noted how Mr. Villareal challenged her academically while also providing personal support. Stephanie expressed gratitude for Mr. Hsu's mentorship, which helped her navigate challenges with confidence.

The ceremony also recognized Abner Mejia Lopez, the salutatorian and a Gates Millennium Scholar, who acknowledged his AVID teacher, Veronica Gaona, for her guidance throughout his high school career.
