Island Fest celebrates community with record attendance and auto show winners announced

The recent Township Board of Trustees meeting highlighted the success of Island Fest, a community event that took place at the end of May and beginning of June. Board members expressed gratitude towards the Recreation Commission for their hard work, noting that many members were actively involved in various tasks, from watering plants to assisting attendees.

Feedback from attendees indicated that this year's Island Fest was one of the best attended in recent years, particularly on Saturday, despite some rain. The carnival reported exceptional participation, with many families enjoying rides and activities. The fireworks display was also praised as one of the best in memory, further enhancing the festive atmosphere.

The auto show, a popular feature of the festival, saw 59 participants, with awards presented for various categories. Cassandra King won the "Best in Show" award for her 1968 Shelby GT350, while the "People's Choice" award went to Tony and Diane Mirzarek for their 1950s Triumph convertible. The "Chairman's Choice" award was given to young Cameron Kordilewski for his well-maintained BMX bike, showcasing the event's appeal to all ages.

In addition to the festival discussions, the board addressed ongoing community projects, including plans for bike trail assessments. The Bicycle and Pedestrian Committee is set to meet on June 19 to evaluate the condition of local trails and develop a strategy for necessary repairs. This initiative aims to ensure the longevity and safety of the trails, benefiting residents who rely on them for recreation and transportation.
