UAB proposes $3M parking redevelopment and $20M Bartow Arena improvements

The University of Alabama System's Board of Trustees meeting on June 5, 2025, unveiled ambitious plans for campus renovations and expansions, with a total projected budget exceeding $200 million.

A key highlight was the approval of a $3 million project to demolish the outdated CCB building, paving the way for future redevelopment. This initiative aims to modernize the campus infrastructure, including the renewal of adjacent parking lots to add approximately 125 parking spaces.

Trustees also discussed significant renovations at Bartow Arena, with a revised budget of $14.6 million. This project will enhance the spectator experience by expanding the lobby and adding a new club-level lounge, making the arena more competitive with other institutions in the American Athletic Conference.

In addition, the Southern Research Phase 1 campus master plan was addressed, with a budget increase to $141 million to accommodate a new BSL level 3 laboratory. This facility will bolster research capabilities and is expected to attract more funding and partnerships.

Further renovations were proposed for the Wynton Blunt Junior Residence Hall and the Mervyn H. Stern Library, with budgets of $22.75 million and $17 million, respectively. These projects aim to upgrade essential facilities, improve student living conditions, and enhance academic resources.
