Superintendent Cotton awards $1,000 scholarship to Deep Creek student Abigail Wigginton

The Chesapeake City Public School District celebrated the future of education at its recent school board meeting, highlighting the importance of attracting high-quality teacher candidates. Superintendent Dr. Cotton took center stage to present a $1,000 scholarship to Abigail Wigginton, an exceptional student from Deep Creek High School, who is set to pursue her education at Virginia Wesleyan University this fall.

Dr. Cotton, who was named Region 2 Superintendent of the Year earlier this year, expressed gratitude to RRMM Architects for their generous support, which made the scholarship possible. "This student represents the future of our profession," he said, praising Wigginton for her leadership as president of her school's DECA chapter and her active participation in the Teachers for Tomorrow program.
