Virginia Beach School Board names new principals at multiple schools

The Virginia Beach City Public Schools held a significant meeting on June 9, 2025, where several key personnel changes were announced. Superintendent Dr. Robertson recognized multiple individuals who have been appointed to principal and director positions within the school district.

Among the notable appointments, James Dobb was named the new principal of Luxford Elementary School, transitioning from his role as assistant principal at John Bridal Elementary School. Sarah Mendez, currently an assistant principal at College Park Elementary School, will take over as principal at Shelton Park Elementary School.

Dr. Leslie Itner, who has served as principal at Plaza Middle School, is set to lead Ocean Lakes High School. Leah Nelson, moving from her position as assistant principal at Frank W. Cox High School, will become the principal at Kellum High School. Tamika Singletary Johnson, known as SJ, will transition from Larkspur Middle School to Kempsville High School, marking her advancement through various educational levels.

Additionally, Anthony Smith, currently an assistant principal at Oscar Smith High School in Chesapeake, has been appointed as the director of alternative education at Renaissance Academy. Tasha Wierin will take on the role of director of the Advanced Technology Center, while Lisonbee Zicook will serve as the new coordinator in special education for the Office of Programs for Exceptional Children.

Dr. Robertson expressed gratitude to the families of the newly appointed individuals, emphasizing the importance of their support as these educators step into their new roles. The changes will take effect on July 1, 2025, marking a new chapter for the schools involved and the community they serve.
