Mayor announces reopening of renovated Bishop Park Pool with enhanced accessibility features

The Bishop Park Pool in Athens, Clarke County, has officially reopened after a complete renovation, and the excitement is palpable. The revamped facility boasts a larger pool with a new zero-depth entry, making it accessible for everyone, including those with disabilities.

The pool's shallow end has been transformed into a welcoming beach-like area, complete with a giant umbrella for shade. An ADA chair lift has been installed to assist individuals in moving between the shallow and deep ends. The pool now features a depth of 12.5 feet, ten lanes for swimming, two diving boards, and basketball hoops, enhancing its appeal for both recreational and competitive use.

In a significant change, the pool will now be open to the public on weekdays, expanding access beyond the previous weekend-only schedule. This renovation not only improves the facility but also aims to foster community engagement through swim lessons and team activities.
