Windsor Elementary School's Safety Patrol program is making a significant impact on student leadership and school safety, as highlighted during the Richland School District Two Board of Trustees meeting on June 10, 2025. School Resource Officer Deshgimme introduced the program, which was launched at Windsor in October 2024, and has since engaged 45 students, primarily from the fifth grade, with an additional 28 joining this year.
The Safety Patrol, a century-old initiative supported by AAA, operates in over 35,000 schools nationwide, emphasizing its importance in fostering safe school environments. At Windsor, the patrollers assist in various roles, including managing the bus loop, overseeing the car rider line, and maintaining order in the cafeteria. Their presence has already shown positive effects, as noted by Principal Savage, who shared a story of younger students choosing not to run in the hallways after seeing the patrollers.
