Edinburgh schools celebrate academic achievements and state competition qualifiers

The Edinburg Consolidated Independent School District (ECISD) held a special called board meeting on June 9, 2025, where significant achievements of local students were celebrated. The meeting commenced with a prayer and the Pledge of Allegiance, led by board member Letty Garcia, setting a respectful tone for the evening.

One of the highlights of the meeting was the recognition of outstanding academic accomplishments by students from various high schools within the district. Antonio Ballesteros, who presented the awards, emphasized the impressive performances of students in competitions, showcasing their talents and dedication.

Robert Vela High School was acknowledged for winning the district sweepstakes championship in academic competitions, with several students advancing to state-level contests. Notable mentions included Kier Contegos and Kieron Pontejo, who excelled in calculator applications, and Emmanuel Barrientes, who was recognized as the region 4 physics champion.

Edinburgh High School also had its share of accolades, with Kenya Acosta qualifying for the state competition in feature writing. Principal Dominic Bea and ASP coordinator Daniel Lara were present to support the students.

Furthermore, Edinburgh North High School was celebrated as the UIL 3168 region 4 academic sweepstakes champions, with multiple students and teams qualifying for state competitions in various subjects, including accounting and mathematics. The achievements of students like Louisa Gilat and David Rodriguez were highlighted, along with individual recognitions in science and literary criticism.

The meeting underscored the district's commitment to academic excellence and the importance of recognizing student achievements. As ECISD continues to foster a culture of success, the community can look forward to further accomplishments from its talented students in the future.
