Goodyear resident Jeff Redmond urges road expansion amid new housing development concerns

Residents of Goodyear are raising concerns about the impact of rapid development on local infrastructure and community quality of life. During the City Council meeting on June 9, 2025, resident Jeff Redmond highlighted significant issues regarding a proposed land use project on 1,080 acres near the high school, which is expected to accommodate around 4,000 new homes.

Redmond expressed his worries about the planned expansion of Cotton Lane, which developers indicated would occur only after the homes are built. He emphasized that this could lead to increased traffic congestion on Estrella Parkway, particularly from construction vehicles, which would disrupt the daily lives of current residents. He urged the city to require developers to prioritize road expansions before construction begins to mitigate potential traffic issues and preserve the quality of life for existing residents.

Additionally, Redmond conveyed a strong community sentiment against the introduction of apartment complexes in the area, advocating for single-family homes instead. He noted that while development is inevitable, the community prefers to maintain its character without the addition of multi-family housing.
