Loomis Library announces summer reading kickoff and community events schedule

The Loomis Town Council held its monthly meeting on June 10, 2025, where community engagement and summer activities took center stage. The meeting featured updates from the Loomis Library and the Chamber of Commerce, highlighting a range of events aimed at fostering community spirit during the summer months.

The Loomis Library's report, presented by Librarian Sarah, announced the launch of the summer reading program, themed "Camp Read Some More," kicking off on June 14. The kickoff party will feature family-friendly activities such as snow cones, face painting, and a community mural, alongside opportunities for attendees to sign up for the reading program. Sarah emphasized that registration is available both online and through traditional paper logs, catering to different preferences.

Throughout the summer, the library plans to host a variety of activities, including sensory stations for toddlers, a genetic genealogy workshop, and craft sessions for children. Notably, the Heritage Trail Pop-Up Museum will showcase local history on June 21, and the library will also offer a "Read to a Dog" program, promoting literacy in a fun and engaging way. However, an event with the Placer County Mosquito and Vector Control was canceled due to staffing issues.

Following the library update, Heather from the Loomis Chamber of Commerce shared upcoming summer events, including a summer concert series and a community mixer to celebrate Dr. Junie Baldonado's 10th anniversary. The Chamber is also preparing for the Fourth of July parade, which promises a variety of entries, including classic cars and tractors. Additionally, Heather announced that the Leadership Loomis program is nearing full capacity, with only a few spots left for interested participants.

The meeting underscored the town's commitment to community engagement through diverse programming and events, fostering connections among residents. As summer approaches, these initiatives are expected to enhance local participation and enjoyment, contributing to a vibrant community atmosphere in Loomis.
