Evanston track team wins state championship after coach's accident

A remarkable achievement in Evanston Township High School District 202 took center stage at the recent school board meeting, as the board celebrated the state championship victory of the boys' 4x400 relay team. The team, guided by interim coaches Kevin Cains and George Woolridge, triumphed in a thrilling finish, overcoming a challenging season marked by the unfortunate injury of head coach Don Michelin, who broke both legs just weeks before the state meet.

The relay team’s performance was nothing short of spectacular, coming from behind in the final stretch to clinch the title. The excitement was palpable as the board recognized the young athletes, including freshman Anthony Honorary, senior Amari Christian, and junior Sean Prester, who were present to share in the accolades. The team narrowly missed breaking the school record, a testament to their hard work and dedication throughout the season.

In addition to the celebration, the meeting also addressed public comments, with over 50 individuals signed up to speak. To accommodate the high volume of speakers, the board extended the public comment period from one hour to approximately one hour and 45 minutes, allowing each speaker two minutes to voice their thoughts.
