The Harrison County Schools Board Workshop on June 11, 2025, focused on the results of a recent satisfaction survey, revealing key insights into the perceptions of parents, staff, and students regarding school culture and climate. The survey indicated that 74% of parents and guardians, 66% of campus-based staff, and 52% of students rated their experiences as excellent or good, highlighting potential gaps between academic perceptions and the overall school environment.
One significant finding was the call for a more equitable distribution of resources across high schools, particularly concerning extracurricular activities and Advanced Placement (AP) classes. Parents and students expressed concerns that some schools offer more opportunities for advanced students than others, suggesting a need for a review of resource allocation.

While high scores were reported for teachers setting clear expectations, the survey revealed a consistent area for improvement: connecting classroom learning to real-life applications. Only 53% of parents and 48% of students agreed that this connection was effectively made.
Safety perceptions were notably positive, with 87% of parents, 86% of staff, and 72% of students feeling safe at school. However, concerns were raised about student-to-student relationships and perceptions of discipline fairness. Some respondents noted a lack of transparency in behavior policies, suggesting that clearer communication about disciplinary actions could enhance trust within the school community.
In terms of support, 84% of parents and 87% of students reported having someone at school to turn to for help with school-related issues, while 80% of parents and 83% of students felt supported with personal problems. This indicates a strong network of support within the schools, which is above national averages.
Overall, the survey results provide valuable insights into areas of strength and opportunities for improvement within Harrison County Schools. The board plans to address these findings to enhance the educational experience and ensure a supportive environment for all students.
