Boyertown School District holds successful special needs fishing rodeo for students

As the sun dipped below the horizon, casting a warm glow over the Boyertown Area School District, the Committee of the Whole meeting on June 10, 2025, brought together board members, educators, and community members to celebrate achievements and discuss pressing matters. Superintendent Dr. Scott Davidheiser opened the meeting with a warm welcome, setting the stage for a night filled with reflections on the school year and plans for the future.

One of the highlights of the evening was the presentation by Assistant Principal Mr. Hauck, who shared the success of the annual special needs fishing rodeo. This cherished event, held in collaboration with the Boyertown Rod and Gun Club, provided over 20 students with special needs the opportunity to fish and bond with club members. Hauck expressed gratitude for the community support that made the event possible, emphasizing the joy and laughter shared among participants. Board member Miss Nyman, a long-time advocate for the initiative, suggested expanding the program to include elementary students, fostering early engagement and excitement for future events.

The meeting also celebrated the recent graduation ceremony, which honored 490 graduates from the Class of 2025. Mr. Stout shared heartwarming moments from the graduation walks, where seniors returned to their former elementary and middle schools, inspiring younger students. The enthusiasm was palpable as current students cheered for their predecessors, creating a sense of continuity and community spirit.

In addition to celebrating achievements, the board addressed the urgent need for a roofing project at New Hanover Elementary School. Representatives from Tremco presented a detailed plan to repair the existing foam roof, which has been plagued by leaks. The proposed project, estimated at $1.74 million, aims to restore the roof and extend its lifespan with a 15-year guarantee. The urgency of the repairs was underscored by the potential for further damage if not addressed promptly. The board discussed the timeline for the project, emphasizing the need to complete disruptive work before students return in the fall.
