Orange Village Council reviews budget adjustments for police and fire services

During the Orange Village Council meeting on June 11, 2025, significant adjustments to the village's operating budget were discussed, highlighting key changes in funding allocations across various departments.

The police department saw an increase of $740 in personal services due to adjustments in benefits since the last budget was approved in December. Additionally, the fire department's budget rose by $12,500, primarily for vehicle repairs, which will be offset by insurance reimbursements recorded on the revenue side.

Mayor's personal services were adjusted upward by $100 due to prior year benefits that were billed in 2025 but not included in the previous budget. Other adjustments included a decrease of $1,500 related to reclassifications for special events and committee activities.

The finance department's budget increased by $7,000 due to refunds of net profits received from the state, which necessitated a return of funds. The police professional training fund also saw an increase of $4,000 for training adjustments requested by the Chief of Police.

A notable highlight was the capital improvement fund, which increased by $175,000 for a potential land purchase for a new fire station. The capital equipment fund also rose by $56,148, primarily for the replacement of a police vehicle that was totaled in an accident, with insurance covering most of the cost.

The council plans to vote on these budget adjustments at the next meeting, indicating a proactive approach to managing the village's financial resources effectively.
