Penfield School District honors tenured staff and retirees at annual recognition event

Under the warm glow of the Penfield School District auditorium, a sense of celebration filled the air as educators and staff gathered for the annual Student Art Showcase and Staff Recognition Ceremony on June 13, 2025. This event not only highlighted the artistic talents of students but also honored the dedication and service of the district's staff members.

The evening began with heartfelt acknowledgments of those reaching significant career milestones. Christina Carey, Thomas Coleman, Laura Donovan, Stephen Lawrence, and Mary Frances Sailor were celebrated for their 25 years of service, marking a quarter-century of commitment to education. Although some retirees from Bay Trail Middle School could not attend, their contributions were recognized, with special mentions for Paulina Brecker, Sandra Cohen, Laurie Falzone, Kathy Paige, and Amy Wilson.

As the ceremony progressed, Penfield High School took center stage, where tenure recognitions were awarded to Veil Edara and Carissa Karafa, alongside congratulations for Ray Zajac, Marissa Gladd, Alexander Perry, and John JJ Schembri, who were unable to attend. The audience erupted in applause for the 15-year benchmark awardees, including Jason and Charlie Roods, as well as Jenny Soleil and Shane Watterson. The 20-year milestone was celebrated for Nicholas Marson and Eric Wallen, while Liza Belair represented the 25-year recipients.

The spotlight then shifted to the buildings and grounds department, where Dan Evans was honored for his 25 years of service, alongside Lilia Kabirski, who celebrated her 20-year benchmark. The food service department recognized Eileen Turner for her 15 years, while Marlene Langdon was acknowledged for an impressive 40 years of service.

Transportation department members were also celebrated, with David Whipple and others recognized for their 15-year benchmarks. The evening concluded with district office tenure recognitions, including Sheena Conway and Marybeth Walker, who were honored for their contributions.

As the ceremony wrapped up, the atmosphere was filled with gratitude and pride, reflecting the dedication of the Penfield School District community. This annual event not only showcased the artistic talents of students but also served as a poignant reminder of the hard work and commitment of the educators who shape their futures.
