City outlines $60M capital preservation projects for FY26 including Legacy House renovations

During the Flagler County Commission Workshop held on June 2, 2025, officials discussed significant capital improvement projects (CIP) and preservation efforts for the upcoming fiscal year. The meeting highlighted the county's ongoing commitment to maintaining and enhancing public facilities, despite facing a substantial unfunded project list exceeding $60 million.

The county has allocated approximately $2 million annually from the general fund to address both CIP and preservation projects. Among the key initiatives for fiscal year 2026 are major repairs and renovations at various sites, including the Health and Human Services (HHS) Segal Center and the Legacy House at Princess Place. Notable projects include repaving the HHS parking lot, exterior painting at the GSB Complex, and roof replacements at the Bings Landing Dig Site.

The Legacy House, which has transitioned from being used by the school board to serving as a facility for visiting scientists, is also slated for renovations. This building is strategically located within the Princess Place area, enhancing its accessibility for community and scientific activities.

Additionally, the commission discussed the potential relocation of public transportation offices back to the HHS Segal Center, which would optimize space in the current building. This move reflects a broader strategy to improve service delivery and operational efficiency within county facilities.

As the county navigates its extensive list of unfunded projects, the discussions at this workshop underscore the importance of prioritizing infrastructure improvements to meet community needs.
