Hope Soccer 2026 partners with Spokane to launch community sports initiative

The Spokane Park Board convened on June 12, 2025, to discuss a significant partnership with Hope Soccer aimed at enhancing community engagement through sports. The meeting highlighted the organization's grassroots approach to soccer, focusing on providing free programs for children, particularly those from underprivileged backgrounds.

The session began with a presentation from Gabriel, the president of Hope Soccer, who emphasized the importance of building trust between coaches and youth. He shared success stories from programs in Salem, South Africa, and Zambia, illustrating how soccer can serve as a tool for life skills development and community integration. A key aspect of the discussion was the introduction of mini pitches—artificial court surfaces that can be installed over existing damaged sports courts. These pitches would allow for multi-sport use, including soccer and basketball, and are intended to revitalize underutilized facilities in Spokane. The board identified Friendship Park and Grant Park as potential locations for these installations.

The memorandum of understanding proposed a long-term partnership, allowing Hope Soccer to operate free programming for up to ten years, with evaluations every two years to assess progress. The board unanimously approved the agreement, recognizing the potential impact on local youth, particularly in addressing issues such as anxiety and gang involvement.
