Sierra Vista Council votes to name park after Buffalo soldier Henry Jones

Sierra Vista City Council has officially approved the naming of the property at Babb Avenue as Henry Jones Legacy Park, honoring the significant contributions of Henry Jones, a Buffalo soldier and community protector. The resolution was passed during the council meeting on June 10, 2025, following heartfelt testimonies from community members and descendants of Jones.

Henry Jones, who served in the U.S. Army from 1911 to 1947, was a prominent figure in Sierra Vista's history. After his military service, he took it upon himself to patrol the streets of the community, ensuring safety in an era before local law enforcement was established.
