Tour de Tonka celebrates 20th anniversary with new features and charity initiatives

The Mound City Council meeting on June 10, 2025, highlighted two significant community events that promise to engage residents and enhance local spirit.

First on the agenda was the much-anticipated Tour de Tonka, celebrating its 20th anniversary this year. Jenny Bouderca from Minnetonka Community Education presented exciting updates about the cycling event scheduled for August 2. With an expected turnout of around 2,500 participants, the event will feature five different ride distances, including routes that pass through Mound. Bouderca emphasized the importance of community involvement, noting that volunteers are essential for the event's success. Over 600 volunteers are needed to assist with various tasks, from registration to cheering on riders. Additionally, a portion of each registration fee will support the local ICA food shelf, with over $100,000 raised to date, showcasing the event's commitment to community welfare.

Following the Tour de Tonka presentation, the council heard from representatives of the Harrison Bay Lake Improvement District. They discussed ongoing efforts to develop a strategy for a lake improvement district, which aims to enhance the local environment and community engagement. The representatives expressed gratitude for the council's support and highlighted the active involvement of local volunteers who have been canvassing neighborhoods to gather feedback and educate residents about the initiative. This collaborative approach aims to ensure that the strategies developed reflect the community's interests and needs.
