City Council decides to end landscaping contract with Inner Nature

During the Solvang City Council meeting on June 9, 2025, a significant decision was made regarding the city’s public landscaping services. The council announced that it would not be renewing its contract with Inner Nature, a landscaping company praised for its quality work. Council members clarified that the decision to bring landscaping services in-house was not a reflection of dissatisfaction with Inner Nature, but rather a strategic move to manage these services internally. This change aims to maintain the city’s beautification efforts, which include the care of plants and flowers throughout Solvang.

In other discussions, City Manager Murphy provided updates on community initiatives, including the upcoming city cleanup scheduled for August 16. This quarterly event, in partnership with Waste Management, encourages residents to dispose of unwanted items responsibly. Notably, the last cleanup event saw a record collection of 6.21 tons of waste, indicating a growing community engagement in environmental efforts.

Additionally, the council addressed an upcoming rate increase for Waste Management services, set to take effect on July 1. Residential rates will rise by 5.93%, while commercial services will see a 5% increase. This adjustment is part of a previously approved contract and reflects ongoing operational costs.

The meeting also highlighted the departure of the goats used for fire mitigation, which will be relocated for further assignments. Residents were encouraged to say goodbye to the goats before their departure on Wednesday.
